Extra Sockets & Socket Installation
More sockets where you need them, plus USB, outdoor and moved sockets, done properly and certified. For lights, see our lighting installation page.
Plenty of electrical work in a home is not a rewire or a new consumer unit. It is a socket where the desk now sits, a light where the old one was too dim, or power at the bottom of the garden. These are the jobs our smaller works side is set up for, and they are welcome.
Additional sockets
Most houses were wired for far fewer appliances than we use now. Adding a socket, or turning a single into a double, is usually a straightforward extension of an existing circuit. We check the circuit can take it, choose the tidiest route, and fit it where it will be useful rather than wherever is quickest.
USB and outdoor sockets
USB sockets are popular beside beds, on kitchen worktops and in home offices, where they free up a plug for something else. Outdoor sockets are useful for mowers, pressure washers, hedge trimmers and garden lights. They need a weatherproof enclosure and RCD protection so they are safe in the wet, and we protect the cable route outside.

Downlights and indoor lighting
LED downlights can transform a kitchen, bathroom or hallway. Good results depend on planning: how many, how far apart, which way they face and which switches control them. We think about fire-rated fittings where they go through a ceiling below a bedroom, suitable ratings in bathrooms, and dimmers that actually work with LED lamps. If you are replacing fittings yourself we can advise; if you want them installed, we fit and test them.
Garden and exterior lighting
Whether it is a security light over the drive, wall lights by the back door or low-level lighting along a path, outdoor lighting needs fittings and cable rated for the weather, protected routes and proper RCD protection. We can run a dedicated outdoor circuit, ideal if you are planning several lights, a garden room or power at the far end of the plot.
Moving switches and sockets
A switch behind a door that now opens the other way, a socket hidden behind new kitchen units, a light switch that would be better at the top of the stairs: moving them is small work, but worth doing right so there are no hidden joints left behind.
Why extension leads aren't a fix
Extension leads are fine for occasional use. As a permanent answer to too few sockets they cause problems: trailing leads to trip over, cables crushed under furniture, and blocks plugged into blocks until one socket is carrying a heater, a kettle and a microwave at once. That can overheat the lead or the socket. If you rely on several leads in one room, it is a sign you need more sockets, or that the whole installation needs a look.
If you are planning several changes, it may be worth thinking bigger. On older homes, a partial rewire or a consumer unit upgrade at the same time can be good value. If something is not working as it should, start with fault finding.
