Electrician in Faringdon

Faringdon is a Vale of White Horse market town on the A420 between Oxford and Swindon, and after Wantage and Grove it is the nearest town to our Lyford base, about 7 miles away.

Market Place and Folly Hill

Faringdon's centre is a compact market town gathered around the Market Place and the Old Town Hall, with Folly Hill and its tower, Faringdon Folly, looking down from the east. The town was historically in Berkshire and has been in Oxfordshire since 1974. Its population was 7,121 at the 2011 Census, with an estimate of 7,992 by 2019 as new housing has been added.

Because we're so close, Faringdon is somewhere we can reach easily for smaller domestic jobs as well as larger projects, and return visits to finish testing or fit parts are simple to arrange.

Stone houses in the conservation area

The Faringdon Conservation Area covers the old centre, where many houses and shops are built of local stone with thick walls and old timber floors. Chasing solid stone for new cables is slow and messy, so we look for existing routes first: under floorboards, through loft spaces and behind skirtings. Where surface cabling can't be avoided, we use discreet trunking and agree positions with you.

Older stone buildings often have damp in places, and we take that into account when choosing where accessories and cables go.

Villages off the gas grid

The countryside around Faringdon, including Great Coxwell, Little Coxwell, and the villages in the Stanford and Watchfield & Shrivenham wards, has many homes without mains gas. Census 2021 figures for the Vale of White Horse show 8.3% of homes heated by electricity only and 5.7% by oil only across the district.

Homes relying on electricity for heating and hot water carry heavier loads, often with storage heaters, immersion heaters and electric showers all on one supply. Before adding anything major, such as an EV charger or a heat pump, we check the main fuse, the earthing and the consumer unit to make sure the installation can take it.

Rented properties

District-level Census 2021 figures show 15.7% of homes in the Vale of White Horse are privately rented. Landlords with cottages, flats above shops or newer houses in and around Faringdon need an Electrical Installation Condition Report at least every five years.

Yes. Because we're close, small domestic jobs such as fault finding or adding sockets are worthwhile for us here.

We'd check the main fuse rating, the earthing and the consumer unit first. Many homes can take a charger, sometimes with load management.
