Electrician in Swindon
Swindon is the largest town on our patch, and most of our work there is in its warehouses, distribution centres and industrial units.
A town built on industry
Swindon grew up around the Great Western Railway works, and industry has stayed central to it. Today the town has large industrial and distribution areas spread around its edges, with easy access to the M4. Estates such as Cheney Manor, Groundwell, Dorcan and South Marston host warehouses, manufacturers, distribution hubs and trade premises of every size.
These buildings need serious electrical infrastructure: three-phase supplies, main and sub-distribution boards, high-bay lighting, cable tray and trunking across large floor areas, and dedicated supplies for machinery, chargers and loading equipment. Tenants come and go, so units are regularly refitted for a new occupier.
Commercial and industrial units in Swindon
A lot of our Swindon work is in industrial and trade units on the business parks around the town: businesses moving into an empty unit, expanding into the one next door, or finally dealing with lighting and power that no longer suits how they work. Typical jobs include new distribution boards and sub-mains, three-phase supplies to machinery, extra small power for workbenches and offices, and containment to carry it all neatly.
Lighting is often the most visible change. Older high-bay fittings and tired office panels can be replaced zone by zone within our normal Monday to Friday hours, so the unit keeps trading while the work goes on. Every new or altered circuit is tested and certified before handover.
We start with a survey, then send a written quote setting out the work and the order we propose to do it in.

Homes across Swindon
On the domestic side, Swindon has the stone-built Railway Village and streets of Victorian terraces near the old works, Old Town on the hill with its older houses, extensive post-war estates, and large newer suburbs to the north and west. Everything from a 1900s terrace needing a rewire to a recent house needing an extra circuit can be found here.
Because Swindon is further from us than Wantage or Abingdon, we tend to take on larger domestic jobs and landlord work there rather than single small repairs.
Distance from Lyford
Swindon is roughly twenty miles south-west of Lyford along the A420 through Shrivenham, typically around half an hour or a little more depending on traffic. For commercial and project work it's well within our usual range.
We also cover places on the way and around the town, such as Shrivenham, Highworth, Stratton St Margaret, Wroughton and Watchfield.
Working in busy commercial sites
Warehouse and distribution sites rarely stop, so electrical work has to fit around operations. That means agreeing exclusion zones around lifting equipment, working at height with suitable access equipment, coordinating with forklift routes, and planning any shutdowns for quieter shifts or weekends where needed. A method statement and risk assessment are agreed with the site before work starts.
Lighting is often the most visible improvement in older units. Replacing worn high-bay fittings with LED can transform a space, and adding sensors or zoning means lights in unused aisles aren't left on. We look at the existing circuits and containment first, as reusing what's sound keeps the job simpler.
For the town's older houses, especially the terraces near the former railway works, a rewire or consumer unit replacement is the usual reason to call us. We'll tell you honestly whether the size of the job makes the journey worthwhile, and if it doesn't, we'll say so.
What we do in Swindon
Most of our Swindon work is warehouse and industrial installations: new distribution, three-phase power, lighting upgrades and containment. We also carry out periodic inspection and testing for commercial premises and work alongside builders on projects. For homeowners and landlords we take on rewires, consumer unit replacements and EICRs.
Swindon by ward and figure
The Swindon built-up area had a population of 224,942 in 2021, far larger than any other town we cover. At Swindon council-area level, Census 2021 shows 29.0% of homes are terraced and 19.3% privately rented. The Swindon Old Town and Railway Village conservation areas protect the town's two historic cores, while wards such as Old Town & Lawn, Gorse Hill, Priory Vale and Covingham & Nythe span everything from Victorian streets to estates built in the last two decades.
