Electrician in Henley-on-Thames
Henley-on-Thames sits on the river in the south-east corner of Oxfordshire, near where the county meets Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, about 30 miles from our office.
A riverside town of period buildings
Henley had a population of 12,186 at the 2021 Census, and its old core around Bell Street and Market Place is packed with historic buildings. The five-arch Henley Bridge, completed in 1786, and Chantry House are both Grade I listed, and the Town Hall at the top of Market Place dates from 1900. Down by the water, Mill Meadows and Marsh Lock draw visitors all year.
Many homes in the town are period properties where the owners want modern electrics without changing the look of the building. That usually means working from the inside: lifting boards rather than chasing external walls, keeping new fittings in sympathy with the rooms, and avoiding new external boxes and cables wherever there's an alternative.
Article 4 directions and what they mean
The Reading Road and St Mark's Road conservation areas both have Article 4 directions, which remove some permitted development rights so that changes to the outside of houses need planning permission. If you are thinking about external lighting, an EV charger on a front wall or a new external meter position, check with South Oxfordshire District Council first. Internal electrical work is generally unaffected, but we keep external changes minimal by default.

Larger homes, outbuildings and garden rooms
Around the edges of town and in the surrounding countryside there are larger houses with detached garages, studios, pool houses and garden rooms. Each of these needs a correctly sized supply from the house, usually by armoured cable underground, with its own protection and often a small consumer unit at the far end. Outdoor lighting for drives and gardens is a common addition at the same time.
Census 2021 figures for South Oxfordshire overall show 8.1% of homes heated by electricity only and 7.1% by oil only, so some larger properties carry heavy electrical loads and need their supply and distribution checked before more is added.

Shops and offices in the centre
Bell Street and Market Place are lined with independent shops, restaurants and offices in old buildings. When a unit changes hands, the electrical work needs to be done quickly and neatly so the new business can open on time, often with lighting that shows off the stock and the building.
Rented homes and our services
About 15.9% of homes in South Oxfordshire are privately rented (Census 2021, district level). Landlords in Henley need an Electrical Installation Condition Report at least every five years. We also provide rewires, consumer units, outdoor lighting and commercial work for the town.
