Commercial Electrical Contractor in Oxford
Electrical services for Oxford businesses and landlords, from city-centre offices to blocks of flats.
Oxford's commercial property is unusual. Alongside modern offices and business parks there are shops, colleges and workplaces in buildings that are centuries old, plus a large stock of flats run as businesses by landlords. Adtec Electrical works as a commercial electrical contractor in the city, travelling roughly 15 miles from our base at Lyford near Wantage via the A338 and A34. For domestic work in the city, see our main Oxford page.
Offices and shops in the city centre
City-centre offices and shops often occupy upper floors of older buildings, with narrow stairs and restricted loading. We plan deliveries and access early, then carry out office installations and shop fit-outs in phases that suit occupied premises, within our hours of Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm. Sites near Oxford station on Park End Street, or reached from the ring road and the M40 approach, are straightforward for vans; the historic core needs more planning.
Older buildings and conservation areas
Oxford has 18 conservation areas, including Central (University and City), Jericho, Osney Town, St Clement's and Iffley Road. Work in these buildings calls for care: thick walls, decorative ceilings and features worth keeping. We look for discreet containment routes through existing voids and service risers rather than surface trunking across a frontage, and agree positions before drilling.
Flats, HMOs and landlords
According to the 2021 Census, 30.8% of homes in Oxford are flats and 32.2% are privately rented. Many of those buildings have landlord-owned supplies to stairwells, entrance halls, door entry and plant rooms. Those common parts are tested more like a commercial installation than a home, and the results go on an EICR. Our commercial EICR page explains how testing is planned so residents keep lighting and access.
Industrial work towards Cowley
The east of the city has long been associated with motor manufacturing at Cowley, and with the business parks and units around it. Workshops and units there need supplies for machinery, distribution boards and lighting, all covered in our commercial electrical services.

How a commercial job in Oxford runs
Most jobs start with a visit to see the building, the boards and the access. We then send a written quote with the scope, the programme and any shutdowns that will be needed. For occupied premises we agree working areas and isolation times with the building manager. Once the work is complete, it is tested and certified, and the board schedules are updated so whoever manages the building in future can find their way round it.
We also carry out periodic testing for Oxford businesses that need a report for their insurer or landlord, and lighting upgrades in offices and shops that still run older fittings. Whatever the job, you deal with one contractor who knows the building.
Send details of the building and the work through the form, or call 01235 430442. We work across the city and the rest of Oxfordshire and surrounding counties.
