EV Charger Installation in Swindon
Home and workplace EV charger installation in Swindon, starting with a check of your supply and parking.
Homes with off-street parking
A home charger normally needs off-street parking, such as a driveway or garage, so the cable doesn't cross a public pavement. Census 2021 figures for the Swindon Borough Council area show 22.3% of homes are detached and 30.7% semi-detached, and many of these, especially on newer estates in wards such as Priory Vale and Badbury Park, have driveways that make installation straightforward.
Many newer homes also have modern consumer units with space for an extra circuit, which keeps the job simpler.
Terraced streets without driveways
Swindon also has a large number of terraced streets, many from the railway era, where houses open straight onto the pavement. Without off-street parking, a home charger usually isn't practical, and running a cable across the footway is not something we would do. In those cases, public or workplace charging is normally the realistic option. If you are unsure whether your parking arrangement is suitable, send us a photo of the front of the property and the position of the consumer unit and we can give you an initial view before visiting.

Checking your supply
Before installing, we check the main fuse rating, the earthing arrangement and the consumer unit. A charger draws a high current for hours at a time, so the existing load matters. Where the supply is limited, a charger with load management can reduce its output when the house is using a lot of power. Some installations need the network operator to be notified, and we handle that paperwork.
Workplace chargers
Businesses in Swindon's offices and units increasingly want chargers for staff, visitors or company vehicles. Workplace installations often involve several chargers, a dedicated distribution board and longer cable runs across car parks, so we survey the site and the existing supply before quoting. Where chargers are spread across several bays, cable routes are planned to avoid digging up more of the car park than necessary, and future expansion is considered so additional chargers can be added later without starting over. Every installation is tested and certified on completion, and you're shown how the charger and any load management work, including any app or timer settings.
