Electrician in Thame
Thame is a South Oxfordshire market town on the river of the same name, close to the Buckinghamshire border and about 30 miles from Lyford.
The boat-shaped High Street
Thame's long, wide High Street swells in the middle and narrows at each end, a shape often compared to a boat. Many of the buildings along it look Georgian but are older underneath: in the 18th century owners refaced timber-framed houses in the local salt-glazed brick, leaving medieval frames hidden behind newer fronts. The Town Hall dates from 1888, and the almshouses on Church Lane from 1550.
For an electrician, that history matters. Walls that look solid may be lath and plaster over oak framing, and floor voids may hide old beams that cannot be notched. Before a rewire we survey the building, agree routes that avoid damaging historic fabric, and use surface or concealed methods as appropriate.
Listed buildings and the conservation area
Much of the centre sits inside the Thame Conservation Area, which includes timber-framed buildings such as Stribblehills, and some properties in the town are listed. Where a building is listed, the owner may need consent for some internal changes as well as external ones, so we recommend checking with the district council before work starts. We plan the electrical side to keep visible changes to a minimum.

Shops and businesses in town
Thame's independent shops, cafés and offices change hands regularly, and each new occupier usually wants new lighting, more sockets and sometimes a fresh distribution board. These are quick-turnaround jobs where the electrical work has to be finished between the strip-out and the shopfitter's final fix. We plan the programme around opening dates and keep the old building's features in mind.

Homes beyond the centre
Away from the High Street, Thame has 20th-century estates and newer developments, and the postcode area OX9 crosses into Buckinghamshire. Nearby villages such as Long Crendon, Haddenham, Chinnor and Great Milton combine thatched and stone cottages with modern infill houses.
Census 2021 figures for South Oxfordshire as a whole show 15.9% of homes privately rented, 7.1% heated by oil only and 8.1% by electricity only. Homes relying on electric heating benefit from a modern consumer unit and properly sized circuits, and rented homes need an Electrical Installation Condition Report at least every five years.
